I am a little late posting this but part four is out! In this video, Mr. John teaches us how to bore sight a rifle the old fashioned way, how to properly set the parallax on a vintage target scope, and how to properly ”pinch” the trigger for benchrest shooting. I know for the viewers it’s a long watch if you’re just wanting to see what groups this 511 prints at 50 yards stock, so feel free to skip ahead to about 12 minutes in if you feel so inclined!
THE RESULTS:
Mr. John sighted in the 511 for 50 yards and set the parallax on the ole Lyman 10X SL. After firing two initial shots to check his boresight, he adjusted and fired a 5 shot group with Eley Target. That was it. He’d seen all he needed to see. The group: 0.674 inches. After subtracting the diameter of the bullet to get center-to-center: 0.451 inches.

Apologies for the over exposure! Needless to say, I was smiling ear-to-ear from this group and I didn’t even shoot it!
I’m baffled. My initial thought was maybe we could the 511 to be a sub-MOA gun after doing a lot of modifications to improve it. Turns out, from the factory with pretty good ammo it was already sub-MOA! I did not set my expectations high enough it seems, and honestly, this makes Mr. John’s job a lot harder on improving it even more, but I know he’s got quite a few tricks up his sleeve. At this point he’s been tinkering with the 511 for about a week now, and I can’t wait to see how the final product turns out and what all tweaking he’s done.
Thank you all for following along, and enjoy the video! Cheers!
