Part five is out! In this video, we sit down with Mr. John one last time before the final accuracy test. Mr. John talks through in pretty good detail on what all was done to the 511 to improve the accuracy. There is also a more in depth discussion around ammunition and ammo selection and how to properly clean your vintage .22LR. I know it’s a long watch but there is a lot of really good information packed into this video, and it would have been even longer had we not had technical difficulties when initially trying to film the final accuracy test.

What Improvements were Made:
With putting the 511 into a 513 stock it had to be bedded to some degree. Mr. John bedded the back and front of the receiver, the first inch or so of the barrel, and then the final inch to inch and a half of the stock. It’s important to note that Mr. John bedded the front part of the barrel using these sort of rubber strips that were used as a barrel cushion for the Winchester 52’s (after doing some research, apparently rubber bike tire inner tubes cut into strips work just fine as well). Other than that, the only other major modification was recrowning the barrel. Though both of these tasks require some precision and skill, both of these tasks can be done at home without specialized tooling. Though Mr. John did put the 511 into a lathe to square up the crown, there are plenty of other/more simple ways to do this, and do it well.
